In 1927, silent film stars Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont are at the height of their stardom. But that could all change overnight, because a new invention is taking Hollywood by storm: the talkie! Unaccustomed to dialogue and overwhelmed by the new format, the screen couple’s latest film threatens to be a flop. An idea is needed…

Gene Kelly is one of the musical genre’s all-time greats, which is why you find him represented twice in our programme (here and in a supporting role in Les Demoiselles de Rochefort). His eponymous dance scene in the rain made Hollywood history, but even beyond that, this musical about producing a musical enchants you with its humour, heart, and, of course, plenty of song and dance numbers. You’re guaranteed to leave the theatre not just happy, but also singing.
